War. Trade war. Instability. 2025 has been a rough ride so far, and some people describe the time we are living in as “the perfect storm”. It affects all of us, from food prices to jobs to peace and security. And for those who work with projects and people in many countries, the sum of challenges seems to be growing by the day.

Should we be afraid? Or should we be optimistic?

The Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation is a centre of competence for international affairs. From Førde in the fiords of Norway, we work through people and partnerships. We have staff with vast and varied experience., from tougher times and tougher contexts. Can stories from Syria, Russia, Finland, Sri Lanka, journalism, peacebuilding and human rights show us a way of thinking forward?
